Mormon crickets rampaged like plague on many of the warm south slopes as I rode. Cool, odd insects. Built like a hunchbacked grasshopper, and a couple inches or longer. Note this female's long stinger-like ovipositor for laying eggs beneath the soil. Listen as they play castanets in the grass to the side of the dirt road. Listen as they crunch under the wheels on the road. Watch as they dine on the bodies of their fellows which have been crunched beneath wheels on the road.
